Following the dismasting of his Class40 ZEISS at 4:20 PM UTC today, 250 miles east of the finish line, Thimoté Polet, who was 8th on The Transat CIC at the time, managed to secure his boat but injured his hand, making it impossible to sail. He therefore called for assistance.
The Race Direction, in liaison with its team and in collaboration with the MRCC (Maritime Rescue Coordination Center) mobilized a helicopter to recover the skipper of ZEISS aboard his Class40.
The operation, led by the US Coast Guard, took place at 11:20 PM UTC. Thimoté Polet was taken care of and is now safe. He will be transferred to the nearest hospital to treat of his injury.
