Espirit Scout brings the total number of Class40s to finish in New York to five
At 10:03 on Sunday 22nd May, Robin Marais aboard Espirit Scout brought the total number of Class40s to finish The Transat bakerly in New York to five.
Following a tight battle to the finish line with fellow Mini 6.50 and Class40 competitor Edouard Golbery, Marais finishes the solo transatlantic race in the Big Apple after 19 days, 19 hours and 33 minutes at sea.
Speaking yesterday, Marais reported that his he is well, but his boat is not.
“The sails are damaged and I have to sail with a reef in constantly. I also lost my VHF antenna and I can no longer use AIS. It is high time to arrive!” he said
Covering a total 3824nm at an average speed of 6.41 knots, Marais crossed the finished the race just 1.5 hours behind Golbery in fourth.
He finishes two days, six hours, 50 minutes and four seconds behind Class40 winner Thibaut Vauchel-Camus aboard Solidaires en Peloton-ARSEP.
Just two competitors, Anna Maria Renken aboard Nivea and Hiroshi Kitada on Kiho, continue to the finish line.
