"If I go home the way I am right now, no one will recognize me anymore!"

The Japanese sailor closes the gap to the leader, expected tomorrow Friday in New York (French time), by more than 600 miles: another week at sea...
Phlegmatic but determined, Japan's Hirashi Kitada continues his unflappable course towards New York, despite steadily worsening weather conditions: he should have suffered six lows since Plymouth by the time he arrived! As a result, the solo sailor was down to just one banana and two apples for fresh food... But he had recovered a flying fish, probably lost in the Atlantic at 39° North! The steady easterly wind of the last few hours, against the Gulf Stream current, has not made life aboard Kiho very pleasant, especially as the skipper is having problems securing his escape hatch in the transom.
