Goulven Marie (QWANZA) informed the Race Direction of The Transat CIC of the dismasting of his Class40 at 0825 UT this morning following the breakage of the lower forestay.
The skipper, who told his team that the weather conditions were giving him little respite, was sailing in 11th position in the fleet in 25 knots of westerly wind and had just put two reefs in his mainsail at the time of the incident. Goulven is fine and safe. The mast has been freed and the skipper is resting before making a makeshift rig. The Race Direction and his team are in contact to assess the situation and enable him to reach the nearest port. The skipper is reassuring that conditions in the area are malleable.
